Mt. Kilimanjaro is located in the Kilimanjaro National Park entirely in the United Republic of Tanzania. Its summit, Uhuru Peak, stands an impressive 5895 m (19, 341 ft.) above sea level. The mountain is permanently snow-capped and is home to several glaciers. In the lower elevations it is likely that you will see monkeys, antelope, elephants, buffalo and an occasional leopard.
There are a number of routes up of varying difficulty up the mountain with most trips taking 5-8 days to reach the summit and return. There are many additional trekking routes, some of which include the Mweka Route, the Shira Route, and the Rongai Route as well many more that that use parts of other routes to reach the summit. There are also a number of routes at the area called the Southern Glaciers, requiring technical mountaineering skills, these include the Reiman Glacier Route, the Decken Glacier Route (right side and original), The Kersten Glacier Route and other variants, the Heim Glacier and other variants. The Northern Glaciers area also boasts many technical routes as does the Kibo Breach Wall area. Here we will focus on a few of the trekking routes but we can provide itineraries for other routes or we can customize an itinerary to meet your specific goals.
