Mt. Meru is located in Arusha National Park near Arusha, Tanzania. It is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and it stands at 4566 m (14,979 ft.) above sea level. Mt Meru has a spectacular horseshoe shaped volcanic crater with a narrow ridge and awesome views all around. The cliffs below the summit are over 4900 feet high. In the lower elevations you will likely see buffalo, warthogs, monkeys, giraffes and an occasional elephant.
The Momella Route is the only route up Mt. Meru. The trek starts at the Momella gate in the Arusha National Park. Trekkers can generally reach the summit and return in four days.
